Three projects:

Thursday evening (optional) - Raw edge hand-stitching applique panel. This can be used in/for future projects. It is the perfect project to get to know each other.

Instructor will supply the organic appliqué shapes already pre-cut in a variety of prints.

Student supplies: hand stitching needle, thread, fabric glue stick, 26” square of background fabric (dark solid fabrics work best but please bring what you love).

Instructor will have hand-stitching supplies for sale and fabric glue sticks.

Friday Workshop: Improv Curved Piecing without templates - Machine piecing

Few shapes have the commanding presence that curves generate in any artistic medium. Curves are easily found in ordinary objects and the natural world. Organic, improv shapes offer timeless design options sure to delight makers and spark their imagination. Join Maday as we immerse ourselves in improvisation, color, design, and curves! More importantly, making a great dent on your stash!

Maday is fascinated by curves and will share tips and tricks for achieving beautifully sewn curves in a variety of sizes, without templates. Sewing experience using a sewing machine is a pre-requisite. Students don't need to have experience sewing curves.

Student supplies: an assortment of 8-10 coordinating fat quarters from light to dark prints, machine with 1/4” piecing foot, neutral piecing thread 50 wt with matching bobbins, 90/14 quilting needle. Glue Stick with replacement cartridges. Maday’s favorite is bohin's glue stick. Cutting mat, rotary cutter with new blade, quilting ruler.

Saturday Workshop: Improv: Trash Talk - Machine piecing

To me improv piecing is like a writing a Poem. It’s taking a journey with endless possibilities and welcoming the unexpected detours.

There is nothing more magical than to re-assemble the “discardable” to create something whole again. It feels like a hug from a loved one. Improv piecing contains the experiences these lovely scraps have lived before they even reached our maker hands; think of the incredible process cotton goes through before it reaches us with a finished textile, or the artists that first selected them to jumpstart a project!

Join me as we explore what improv means to you, and you create magic out of the unexpected!

Student supplies: Bag of scraps in a variety of colors, prints and sizes. Please bring your scraps already sorted by color and sizes to make assemblage more enjoyable. Machine with ¼” foot, neutral piecing cotton thread, pre-loaded bobbins, 90/14 quilting needle, rotary cutter with new blade, cutting mat, quilting ruler.
