As an Art form, quilt making is a visual poem; a conversation between creator and viewer, a necessary dialogue between heritage and our personal experiences with textiles, in a modern world where excess is flaunted and often celebrated. Talking about textile waste invigorates Maday to create solutions. Textiles are expressive, comforting and connecting. The stories they carry are a part of us and a powerful reminder that a sustainable future is crucial for the longevity of our creative practices and relationship to the natural world.

In this workshop Maday is inviting us to look and search a little deeper and lose ourselves in a sustainable world of color, where scraps take the center stage to showcase the potential of what many may deem “trash.” We will favor scraps over consistency, colorful chaos over convention by piecing together, improv style, and constructing compositions that reflect our uniquely individual styles. The emphasis is on reuse and upcycling; the lovely remnants will energize our personal masterpieces with textures, color and form, melding our creations into comforting tapestries that can be used in the present or in future projects.

Maday hopes you will join us as we explore what improv means to you and you create magic out of the unexpected.
